About the designer - Jules Robinson
Nature is woven throughout everything I do in life, so it makes sense that I would name my jewelry business Birds on the Wing Design Studio. Birds-on–the-wing (Polygala paucifolia) is a beautiful woodland flower that grows wild in the Northeast and Canada. It is usually rosy-purple in color and has petals like wings. I am a certified wildlife biologist who has spent my career working with birds including; grouse, woodcock and waterfowl, so the name just seemed to fit.
My love of art started at a young age and has continued throughout my adult life. I am a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen in the fiber arts as a rug hooker. I love to transform strips of hand-dyed wool into beautiful rugs. All of my rugs have a wildlife theme since that is what I know best. Jewelry became my passion a few years ago as it is very organic in nature just like designing rugs. I love working with silver, minerals, wood, bone and a variety of glass including sea glass (anything from nature that I can use to design unique pieces of jewelry) I am a lamp worker and make many of my glass beads with a torch. This technique allows me to melt rods of glass, combining colors as I go, and create one-of-a-kind beads to incorporate into my jewelry.
I enjoy using different combinations of materials and skills when making my jewelry. I combine bead weaving techniques using a multitude of beautiful glass seed beads from countries like India, Japan and Czechoslovakia, with pieces of sea glass I have found along the Atlantic Coast, or the lamp work beads I create at the torch. I always want my designs to be refreshingly unique handcrafted jewelry.
I hope you come back often and enjoy wearing my designs. If there is something special you are looking for and do not see, let me know and I will create it for you! I design earrings, bracelets and necklaces, and often offer designs in sets.
Thanks for stopping by and shopping!
